"'I'm gonna mask that morning if it costs me my life!' That morning you pray and ask God to watch over you, cause everybody is bucking for number one." - Larry Bannock
Native American culture is very much well and alive in New Orleans. One of the most prevalent cultural practices is influenced by the traditional American Indians, The Mardi Gras Indians. This group originated by African Americans, developing their own way to celebrate Mardi Gras with bright colors, parades, and music. They originated in the 1880s from the Creole Wild West Tribe, as a way to provide inspiration to the locals. Other than Mardi Gras, this indian tribe can be seen on Super Sunday (the day after St. Johns Day) as well as at various other parades and celebrations. There are at least 50 active tribes in New Orleans, brought together by a sense of religious and cultural freedom.
